What I’ll Show You Inside the Workshop

In our 6 weeks together, I’ll guide you step by step through creating your own embroidered journal. You’ll learn how to:

  • Print your photos at home on fabric and turn them into beautiful fiber art pieces or studies for your journal.

  • Learn to make compositions with fabric collage and embroidery to layer textures and meaning

  • Paint fabric with watercolor to use on your textile collages

  • Gather special fabrics and photos with memories to make your journal deeply personal

  • Play with embroidery textures inspired by my colorful art style to bring your journal to life

  • Hand-stitch your journal with felt and fabric, making it one-of-a-kind

  • Weave reflections and stories into your pages through fabric, thread, and collage

  • Draw inspiration from my own process — I’ll share my journals, tips, and experiences as an artist

  • I will be sharing other female artists works for inspiration

  • Access to my community in this platform where you can share your process and get feedback.

  • Please note, this is an explorative journey where you’ll play with thread, fabric, and photos to bring your memories and reflections to life. This isn’t a technical stitching course, so we’ll focus on expression over technique.

Meet Katy, your teacher!

Katy Biele

Artist

Hi, I’m Katy, a Chilean artist based in Victoria, BC, Canada. My work in painting and textile art has been exhibited internationally and is recognized for its vibrant use of color, texture, and emotional depth. I’ve been teaching for over 10 years, with more than 11,000 students on other online platforms and hundreds more through in-person workshops around the world. Teaching is one of my biggest passions. I love creating spaces where students can explore freely, play with color, and find confidence in their own creative process.

FAQ

  • What is the refund policy?

All sessions are recorded and accessible for 6 months, so you can watch at your own pace. Because of this, I’m unable to offer refunds.

  • I am a complete beginner can I still participate?

Yes! While a basic knowledge of stitching is helpful, this is an explorative course focused on creativity, memory, and storytelling so we are not focusing on structured stitches techniques.

  • I don't have a printer and I am unable to print the photos on fabric, can I still participate?

Yes! I had students before that they couldn't print the photos on fabric and it was ok. Some of them just work on the journal with collage. Others printed photos on thick paper and work with that and it was fine.

  • I want to learn just stitches and techniques, do you think this workshop is for me?

No, I don't recommend it. This is not a classic embroidery workshop to learn stitches. As you seen, my work is very explorative and freestyle so my main goal is not teaching stitches.

  • What kind of printer do your recommend to print the photos?

Just the classic Inkjet home printer is great, that's what I use. Also, the photos will be on black & white.
